According to a study of the ” calcification of historical skeletal bones ”, coordinated by Dr. Angel Ferrández, President of the Fundación Centro Andrea Prader, located at the University Hospital Miguel Servet in Zaragoza, who analyzed more than a hundred historical bones, corresponding to anonymous people who lived in different stages, from the Neanderthal era to the year 1500 AD, and historical figures such as the Kings of Aragon, in the eleventh century, discovered that the bones are mostly undamaged and present a “great” calcification ” including women, a group that, nowadays, osteoporosis affects about 40%.
Why the difference of the condition of the bone mass of our ancestors when the DNA is the same?
1) MOVEMENT. The body can have optimal levels of calcium but to get to the bones, muscles need to move and contract, which our ancestors were doing very often , unlike today, where comfort keeps us staying in the same position most of the day ( sitting in front of a computer, in the car, on the couch watching TV , ….) from an early age .
Thus at the age of 40 or 50 years can start to appear osteoporosis.
Get used to move more often, using the stairs instead of the elevator, walking short distances instead of using the car, do stretches when you have to stay long time in the same position, and take every possible moment to prevent diseases that can be produced by the lack of movement.
2 ) VITAMIN D. The ancestors also had adequate levels of vitamin D in the body, due to sun exposure for their daily activities. The body needs sun exposure for at least 15 minutes per day to get vitamin D.
3 ) NUTRITION. Today it is very difficult to find products that really can nourish just as happened long time ago. This is due to the presence of contaminants in the environment, transgenic seeds, refined foods (“cleansed ” of all its nutrients, such as white flour and sugar ). Excess sugar and salt that is usually added ” to have taste ” (natural foods HAVE flavor, but the mayority of people have grown accustomed to add too much salt or sugar and have lost the ability to capture the real flavors of natural food), and all dyes, thickeners, preservatives, glutamates … etc . that are usually added to create textures, colors and flavors that can be pleasant and timeless but eventually apart from not nourish, can weaken more and more the digestive system which has to work (processing harmful food ) without receiving the compensation that it deserve ( the real nutrients).
Nowadays in case of loss of calcium we often consume dairy product, without thinking that if nature had intended that humans need milk all through their life, mothers should breastfeed for the entire lifetime!
Cow’s milk contains many more proteins than human’s milk, that why a calf will grow to 200 kg in a year, in addition in cow’s milk can be found fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides contained in their food, substances to prevent infections to breasts by having to produce so much milk each day …
What other foods contain calcium that can benefit my bones ?
Nuts (walnuts , almonds , hazelnuts , seeds ), which our ancestors ate a lot, as evidenced by the grooves of the teeth found in archaeological digs, broccoli, cabbage , kale , sweet potatoes , carrots , winter squash, legumes (lentils, chickpeas , white beans, red or black ), whole grains (rice, wheat , quinoa , amaranth ), fruit (oranges , dried figs , raisins , nuts ), shellfish (shrimp , prawns), sardines ,sea bass, sea vegetables(kombu, nori, wakame, agar).
It’s recommended to reduce or eliminate sugar, red meat, salt, refined grains, alcohol and soda pop.
According to Chinese medicine the bones are controoled by the kidneys , and the period of their greatest height is the period in which they gather and eat many of the foods described.
In addition, with the help of acupuncture and herbs can strengthen the kidney through specific points of the body, helping further to eradicate pain, increase bone density and nourish the brain.
